THE CHALLENGE
What the business was up against.
The factory ran on paper ledgers and disconnected spreadsheets. The numbers that mattered most — what a batch actually cost to produce — could not be answered on the day they were needed.
- Accounting was paper-based, with the rest of the operation spread across fragmented spreadsheets that nobody could reconcile.
- Costing a complex ice cream recipe was effectively impossible in real time, because raw material prices moved faster than anyone could recalculate a mix by hand.
- Stock movements were invisible, so inventory on paper and inventory in the freezer steadily diverged.
- There was no access control and no accountability: any action could be taken by anyone, and none of it left a trace.
